This Satirical Thriller

The filmmaker's unflinching critique examines the tyranny of women's appearance along with the perceived horrors of growing older. Hollywood star Demi Moore delivers a brilliant acting turn in the role of Elisabeth, an aging actress reduced to presenting a fitness program on TV. Edged out thanks to her deceitful superior her manager Harvey, she undergoes an enigmatic and gruesome treatment called "The Substance". This produces a new version of herself named Sue, leading to a progressively toxic connection between them. This Friday, Paramount+

The Woman in Cabin 10

This classic whodunit thriller includes the talented actress as Laura, a skilled journalist who opts for a hiatus from writing about world issues to embark on a high-end voyage with an ailing Scandinavian billionaire and donor, her partner, as well as other filthy rich guests. However when an enigmatic female goes overboard one night and everyone insists she wasn't real, her journalistic curiosity take over. Out now, on Netflix

Presence Film

The acclaimed director challenges his film-making abilities in this clever paranormal narrative shot entirely from the viewpoint of the phantom. When a household with Lucy Liu as Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe occupies their recent residence, the lens – AKA the Presence – follows them around. Chloe seems aware of the supernatural presence, and the entity appears defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? This is an entertaining concept that avoids overstaying, with a twist you might not see coming. Saturday 11 October, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere

Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

Nicolas Cage wholeheartedly adopts his cult stardom via this autobiographical spoof. He plays a self-obsessed Hollywood actor called Nicolas Cage who accepts a $1m payday to visit a festive event in Mallorca for billionaire Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Hired by the intelligence agency to investigate the alleged criminal, his unconventional method comes in handy. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, Channel 4

This Creepy Thriller

The director's locked-room horror holds up well despite the lack of a follow-up. Located in 1970s Colorado, a series of disappearances has rendered the youth anxious. Once Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a cellar, he fears a terrible outcome. Yet the old telephone on the wall repeatedly calls, with spooky callers providing assistance, while the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, on Film4

This Dramatic Portrait

In the battle between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Michael Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye set about capitalizing on the people's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain manages to present the real-life figure with compassion. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel

This Espionage Thriller

The current week's another release from the filmmaker delivers a espionage tale as precise like the turtlenecks used by the actor's UK spy. His assignment is to identify a double agent inside the organization from five suspects – one of whom is his own wife. Both actors are experts of deadpan cool, so a delicious mind game of deception or honesty develops. Additional actors participate the smart espionage amusement. This Friday, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, the Sky channel
