Israeli Strikes in Gaza Allegedly Claim Lives of at Least 12, One of Deadliest Tolls Following Fall Agreement

Medical facilities in the territory reported that Israeli strikes killed at least 12 Palestinians on Saturday, one of the highest tolls since an October agreement aimed at halting the conflict.

Particulars from the Strikes

The missiles hit locations in both the north and south of Gaza, such as a residential block in Gaza City and a shelter in Khan Younis, according to officials at hospitals that received the victims. The casualties included two women and six children from separate households.

Warplanes conducted additional attacks, while the army issued an evacuation warning for a building in Khan Younis, ahead of an attack.

Rising Toll Amid Ceasefire Efforts

These attacks occurred a day before a border crossing is expected to open in Gaza’s southernmost city, a reminder that the death toll is still rising while a truce deal inches forward.

Every border crossings have been shut since the start of the war, and residents view the Rafah passage with Egypt as a crucial conduit for the many thousands in need of medical care beyond the territory as most of its healthcare system has been destroyed by Israeli bombardment.

Israel wants to ensure that the number of people exiting exceeds those entering, according to reports, which said the goal is to allow only 150 Palestinians into Gaza through Rafah daily.

Hospital Reports

Shifa hospital said an aerial attack on Gaza City killed a woman, three children and one of their relatives on that morning. Separately, a hospital in Khan Younis stated a strike in a makeshift settlement caused a blaze, killing seven, including a father, his three children and three young relatives.

Health authorities have recorded more than five hundred people dead from Israeli fire since the beginning of the ceasefire on 10 October.

The armed forces did not immediately respond to questions about the strikes.

Ceasefire Agreement and Future Plans

Despite repeated lethal incidents involving Palestinians in violation of the autumn truce, the deal has entered a crucial second phase. Some of the thorniest issues are contained in this stage, which would require Hamas to disarm and transfer control to a proposed Board of Peace body.

A recent presentation showed a plan for “developing Gaza”, complete with sleek skyscrapers and waterfront promenades along the Mediterranean.

Context of Destruction

The vast majority of the territory has been flattened and basic infrastructure remains non-functional as a consequence of Israeli bombing over the recent period, which has also killed more than 70,000 Palestinians. Previously, a UN commission of inquiry found that Israel had committed a crime against humanity in Gaza.
