Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Fined $250,000 for ‘Inadvertent’ Obscene Gesture at Fans

“It was unfortunate. It was kind of an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”

He further emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he noted. “It was inadvertently done. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Recent examples include:

• Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
