Australian batsman Travis Head Reaches Out to England's Ben Duckett Following Online Backlash

Demonstrating the relationships that exist beneath the surface of international cricket, Travis Head has revealed he sent a private message of support to England's Ben Duckett.

The gesture came after Duckett was subjected to a significant criticism on social media.

Unverified Footage Sparked Debate

The situation began when unconfirmed video clips circulated online.

The footage purportedly showed Duckett, seemingly intoxicated, in a tense late-night exchange with a fan.

This took place during the team's mid-series break in Noosa, thrusting the opener in an negative spotlight.

England Management Addressed Behaviour

Just hours before, England's managing director, Rob Key, had spoken out.

He called heavy alcohol consumption "totally inappropriate" and confirmed he would be looking into reports from the trip.

“I get along with Ducky well, I reached out to him to see if he was going alright,” Head told reporters.

He made these comments at the MCG following England's two-day victory in the fourth Test.

An Appeal for Understanding

Head emphasized the personal side of the situation. "Cricketers are people too. What you do in personal time is up to you."

He acknowledged the high-profile nature of their lives but felt the reaction was "a bit stiff [unfair]."

"Everyone made a lot more out of it that there should have been." Head continued. "I reckon it was an England fan."

Sharing his perspective, the batsman said, "I don’t think it was any real issue."

He suggested that "When there’s big gaps in Tests, people have got to find something to talk about."

Support from the Captain

Prior to this, England captain Ben Stokes had stood by Duckett.

In an emotional press conference before the fourth Test, Stokes called for "empathy" towards his teammate.

Moving Forward

On the field, Duckett scored 34 important runs in England's successful chase of 175.

After the match, he posted online, stating, "A fantastic finish to a very difficult week."

Head said he hoped for longer cricket in the next Test, remarking, "Hopefully we can play a bit longer next week and there’s less stuff to talk about."
